Stash Of Drugs, Stolen Clothes Found In Cars During Traffic Stops On I-75

DETROIT (WWJ) - As many as five people we are facing charges after police say they tried to leave the state with drugs and stolen clothing.

The first bust was made Monday when troopers with the Michigan State Police Special Enforcement Section stopped a vehicle along I-75 in Wayne County for following another car too closely.

When the driver, who police say had a suspended license, gave consent to search the vehicle, troopers found 435 oxycodone pills and 30 alprazolam pills. The pills had been purchased in the Detroit area and were headed for Cincinnati, Ohio, according to police.

The same day, troopers stopped another vehicle in the same are for an unspecified traffic violation.  Upon approaching the car, the trooper say they could smell the odor of burnt marijuana. After allegedly hearing conflicting stories from all there occupants, troopers searched the vehicle and found $1,605 in stolen clothing in the trunk.

The driver and front seat passenger admitted to stealing the clothes from an unknown Detroit area JCPenny store.

The MSP Financial Crimes Unit has been called in to assist as an investigation continues in both cases. The names of those involved and specifics about expected charges were not immediately released.
