(CBS DETROIT) - It may only be February, but severe weather entered Southeast Michigan Tuesday evening.

The CBS Detroit NEXT Weather Team declared Tuesday a NEXT Weather Alert Day.

Tuesday's record heat is helping fuel the atmosphere for storms to roll through this evening and early overnight. 

The Storm Prediction Center issued a slight risk for severe storms late Tuesday evening and through the overnight. The window for the strongest storm potential through the early overnight (until 3 a.m. Wednesday). Another isolated shower or storm will be possible closer to 5 a.m. Wednesday and during the morning commute.

This storm system could bring heavy rainfall, significant hail stones, one inch or greater in size, damaging wind gusts of 45 mph or more, and possible tornadoes.

After the storms moved through, Wednesday was to be cold and windy. A wind advisory has been issued for Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for winds gusting over 40 mph.
