Police: Alcohol A Factor In Pedestrian Crash On Michigan Avenue

CANTON (WWJ) - Authorities say alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash along Michigan Avenue that left a pedestrian in critical condition.

The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Haggerty Road in Canton.

Witnesses told police that the victim, a 25-year-old Ann Arbor man, was walking in the roadway before he was struck by a vehicle.

The man was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Ypsilanti where he was last reported in critical condition. Investigators say he appears to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The driver involved stopped at the scene and was questioned by police. No further injuries were reported.

Michigan Avenue was closed for several hours while police investigated, but has since reopened.
