Michigan state troopers use K-9, aircraft to help return missing 86-year-old man home

A missing 86-year-old man was found alive Saturday in Van Buren County after a search by first responders that included canine and aircraft support, the Michigan State Police Paw Paw post reported.

The man had left his home in rural Almena Township in the late afternoon, using his Gator utility vehicle to check on his 200 acres of wooded property. But when he didn't return before sunset, his wife called police.

Temperatures dropped into the teens as the search went on.

With the help of a canine team, troopers searched the wooded trails and found the man still by his Gator, which had become stuck. He was cold and disoriented, but otherwise safe, the report said.

Aerial support from Michigan State Police directed first responders back to the home.

Ambulance medics treated him on site, he declined to go to a hospital.

"Great teamwork contributed to this outstanding rescue and ensured a positive outcome!" the state police reported.
