Metro Detroit Man Indicted In 16-Year-Old Cold Case Murder In Tennessee

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee prosecutor says a grand jury has indicted a Michigan man in the slaying of a woman 16 years ago.

Hamilton County District Attorney General Neal Pinkston said in a statement on Wednesday that 43-year-old Jason Kirk Sanford of Westland, Michigan, is charged with murder in the death of 21-year-old Sarah Lea Perry.

Perry's body was found in a trash can by two boys on June 15, 2000. She had been strangled.

Pinkston says in the statement that Perry had been in a relationship with Sanford and had broken things off shortly before her death. The statement says she called East Ridge Police on June 14 to ask them to check her home for Sanford because he had threatened to hurt her.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Sanford has an attorney.
