A Detroit man accused of fatally stabbing his friend earlier this month at a gas station is facing charges.

Gregory Anthony Clark, 66, of Detroit, was charged with manslaughter in the April 12 assault that left 61-year-old Eddie Clora. He received a $500,000.

On Tuesday, Southfield police held a press conference where Chief Elvin Barren said the two men had been friends for decades.

"This should not have happened," Barren said.

The stabbing happened outside a BP gas station at Eight Mile and Lahser roads. An investigation revealed that the men were arguing outside of a vehicle at the gas station when Clark allegedly struck Clora in the head with an object, according to Barren. Police say Clora fought back and got on top of Clark to get hold of what police believe was a knife in the suspect's hand.

Barren says Clark stabbed Clora in the head, and a bystander intervened. He says Clora stood up and that's when Clark stabbed him again in the chest area. Clora was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Clark ran away from the scene but turned himself in to law enforcement on April 16.

"What saddens us the most, after experiencing his death, he called this guy his friend. What kind of friend would do this?" said the victim's sister, Rhonda Wilson. "That's not a friend. We have to be so careful who we invite into our lives and our personal space. Who would've thought my brother would be fighting for his life inside his vehicle, outside of a gas station?"

Clark's next court date is May 1.
