Man fatally struck by vehicle on southbound I-275 in Wayne County
The southbound lanes on Interstate 275 in Canton Township reopened late Monday night after a man was fatally hit by a vehicle, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Michigan State Police say at about 7:55 p.m., Canton police were notified of a crash on the freeway near Ford Road. An investigation revealed that a man parked his car on the right shoulder and walked into the lanes.
One driver was able to avoid the man, but the second driver could not stop in time and struck the man in the middle lane of the freeway, according to MSP. Both drivers remained at the scene.
MSP says the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has not been notified.
The southbound freeway at 8:15 p.m. and reopened shortly before midnight.
"Troopers will interview family members to determine why the pedestrian walked into the roadway," said MSP 1st Lieutnant Mike Shaw in a statement. "Remember, you are not alone.
