Cops: Semi-Truck Slams Into Man Changing Tire On I-96; Victim In Critical Condition

NOVI (WWJ) The Michigan State Police Metro Post is investigating a traffic crash that happened at 7:53 a.m. Monday on eastbound I-96 near Beck Road in Novi.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a company vehicle had pulled over to the right shoulder and was changing a flat tire. A semi-truck that was travelling in the right lane of eastbound I-96 and struck the driver of the vehicle who was kneeling down in the right lane, police said.

The driver, who is in his fifties and was driving a company vehicle, was transported to Botsford Hospital for serious injuries and is currently in critical condition.

The right lane of eastbound I-96 was closed for the crash investigation for approximately 15 minutes, with a long back-up extending for miles through much of the morning.

The investigation is ongoing, cops said.
