Adoption Event: Dozens Of Pets Waiting For Forever Homes

ALLEN PARK (WWJ) - If you're in the market for a furry new friend, dozens will be waiting to meet you Downriver!

Elaine Green, Executive director of Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, says it's their goal to get all their shelter dogs and cats adopted by next Saturday, which has been declared National Homeless Animals Day.

With just one week to get it done, Green says they're hosting a big adoption event tomorrow in Allen Park.

"We're going to bring more than 50 dogs, cats, kittens — and puppies if we have them — in hopes to find them forever homes," she told WWJ's Chrystal Knight.

Green says, so far this year, they've helped more than 800 animals find homes.

But that's not the first step.

"What we do is we bring them up current on vaccinations, give them an exam, make sure that they're healthy. We also do a behavior and temperament assessment on them so that we know more about them," Green said.

The FAMD adoption event will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Home Deport at 3163 Fairlane Dr. in Allen Park.
