About To Lose Her Home, Belleville Woman With MS Pleads For Help

BELLEVILLE (WWJ) - A Belleville woman on the verge of homelessness is asking for a little help this holiday season.

Mother of three Alicia Harris is worried that her two of her three sons who are in college literally won't have a home to come home to this Christmas as her house is scheduled to be sold at auction this week.

"The credit union a couple of months ago turned over the house to an attorney, or a firm, to say if this isn't paid by this date then we're going to sell the home; and unfortunately I'm not able to come up with that kind of money," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Dave Ramos.

Harris — who suffers from multiple sclerosis — is on medical leave from work and has exhausted all of her financial resources. Making things worse, Harris says her ex-husband only intermittently pays child support, and one of her children suffers from inoperable kidney disease.

Now Harris must turn to strangers.

"Someone who I know has put up a Gofundme account on my behalf, for me and my children, in an effort to campaign this issue....and hopefully people will donate to the Gofundme," she said.

The page reads in part: "Aren't the holidays, a time to help, give back, pay it forward?  Everybody has a story. Everybody has a challenge. Everybody has a journey.  So picture her journey:  today, after working for one of the local nationally ranked hospitals for more than twenty years, she is losing everything.  Why?  Because, the employer's insurance company will not pay disability payments..."
