1 officer, 1 suspect injured in Colorado Springs police shooting, department says
A Colorado Springs police officer and a suspect have been injured in a police shooting, the department said on Monday.
Few details were immediately available, but the department said on social media around 2:45 p.m. that the shooting occurred in the 2600 Block of East Bijou Street.
A police spokeswoman said in a news conference that an officer responded to a call for service just after 1:30 p.m. about a suspicious person.
The officer, who has not yet been identified, was shot and sustained serious, not non-life-threatening injuries, according to the department. The suspect, who also has not been identified, was also shot, but the spokeswoman did not know their status.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is now investigating the shooting.
The area of the shooting is about two-and-a-half miles east of downtown Colorado Springs and about two miles southwest of the Citadel Mall. Colorado Springs is about 70 miles south of Denver.
The Colorado Springs police spokeswoman said they hope to release more information later in the day.
