A fatal hit-and-run crash had all lanes of traffic on two major roads in Aurora blocked off at daybreak on Friday. Investigators said it began when officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a 2008 Hyundai sedan with no license plates near the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Ironton Street.

The driver initially pulled over but as the officer approached the vehicle's driver's side door, the driver sped away. The driver then ran a red light and struck the pedestrian at the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Havana Street shortly before 5:40 a.m. The pedestrian did not survive.

Several hours later, multiple officers with Aurora Police Department and their traffic unit continued to investigate and there was yellow caution tape blocking off the entire intersection at 7 a.m.

Witnesses told police there was a dark-colored sedan with front-end damage pulled over at Colfax and Boston. When officers arrived, they found the Hyundai unoccupied. A short while later, officers contacted a man who was in the area and he confirmed he was the passenger in the car at the time of the crash. The driver has not been found.
