Fuel Tax Sends Colorado Road Officials To DC
FRISCO, Colo. (AP) -- Colorado highway and transportation officials are headed to Washington to fight for an extension of the federal fuel tax.
Congress must extend the tax or it expires Sept. 30. The Colorado Department of Transportation receives nearly $400 million a year from the federal fuel tax.
The Summit Daily News reports that officials from of the Colorado Transportation Commission, the Denver Regional Council of Governments, the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and Colorado Counties Inc. are meeting with Colorado Congress members about the tax.
Congress has yet to agree on a budget that would extend the fuel tax. Summit County Commissioner Dan Gibbs said he hopes that Congress will reach an agreement in time to preserve Colorado's road money.
