Jeffco School Board Censures One Of Its Members

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - The Jefferson County School Board voted on Thursday night to censure one of its members, calling her unethical, erratic and disruptive.

Laura Boggs has been at the center of controversy for months. There have been allegations she's stormed classrooms, called school "stupid," sneaked into union meetings and threatened to shoot principals who requested temporary buildings.

This week the board took action after a letter from Superintendent Cynthia Stevenson. Stevenson said Boggs told her she would "tear the county apart" and "Call Washington DC" to "endanger a $33 million grant."

"I feel she has used her position completely inappropriately to be intimidating, to be threatening," parent Kelly Johnson told CBS4.

"If things don't get better I'd like to see the Board of Education ask Ms. Boggs to resign," said Kerry Dahlman with the Jefferson County Education Association.

Although she didn't comment to CBS4 about the issues, Boggs says the superintendent is lying.

Board president Dave Thomas told CBS4 there's no real consequence to a censure; it's merely a public statement that the board disapproves of Boggs' conduct.

Some parents are now calling for a recall, but that would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and officials would like to try to avoid that.
