2 Men Charged In Fake Attorney Case

DENVER (CBS4)- A man allegedly pretending to be a lawyer and his client have been charged by the Denver District Attorney.

Robert Black has been charged with attempt to influence a public servant and criminal impersonation by allegedly posing as a lawyer in a criminal case.

Brandon Vance has been charged with conspiracy to influence a public servant for his role in the case.

Black, 28, is accused of appearing in Denver County Court May 3 and falsely claiming to be an attorney representing Vance, 32.

Vance had been charged with assault and disturbing the peace in November 2011.

The investigation into Black's claim began when the court tried to reach him later that day through the attorney registration number he provided. It was discovered that the registered attorney was not Black.

Black was arrested May 18 when he returned to Denver County Court to appear on the original case. Both Black and Vance have been released from custody on $5,000 bond.

They are scheduled to appear in Denver County Court June 19 for a preliminary hearing.
