A terminally-ill Cook County Jail inmate died in custody. He, like hundreds of other low-level offenders, couldn't afford to bond out.
"Unfortunately, Mr. Hanley's death is another shameful reminder of how disgracefully unjust our bond system is," said Cara Smith, chief policy officer for the Cook County sheriff's office.
