Police involved in shooting in Aurora, Illinois

Police were involved in a shooting in Aurora, Illinois, on Wednesday afternoon.

The department said around 1:30 p.m., police were on the scene investigating what they called "a criminal matter" in the 300 block of South Broadway. They later said the incident involved an officer who discharged their firearm.

The scene of the incident appeared to be near a gas station.

Aurora police said there was no risk to the public, but asked people to steer clear of the immediate area due to the large police presence. Motorists are also advised to use alternate routes.
