4 killed, 20 wounded in Memorial Day weekend shootings in Chicago
At least one person has been killed, and 18 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend.
The victims range in age from 18 to 59.
Shootings from Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend, a 28-year-old man was near the sidewalk in the 7300 block of South Winchester Avenue around 7:40 p.m. Friday, when someone shot him in the hip.
He took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Around 9:10 p.m. Friday, a 46-year-old woman argued with a man and a woman in the 4700 block of South Lake Park Avenue in Kenwood.
During the argument, the man and woman began hitting the victim in the face before she pulled out a gun and fired shots.
A 33-year-old woman was shot twice in the left armpit and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
The 46-year-old woman, who has a valid FOID card, suffered bruises to the face from the attack and refused medical attention.
The man and woman who attacked the victim were taken into custody, and charges were pending Saturday morning.

Shootings from Saturday
- At 2:46 a.m., a 35-year-old man was in his car in the 1700 block of North Spaulding Avenue when he argued with another man in the vehicle. The victim got out of the car, and the other man pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots from inside the vehicle. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead. The shooter fled the scene.
- At 8:04 a.m., a 39-year-old man was in the 700 block of East 60th Street when a white SUV pulled up, and someone inside started shooting. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the wrist and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
- At 11:01 a.m., an 18-year-old man was in an alley in the 200 block of South Cicero Avenue when someone shot him multiple times. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
- At 3:29 p.m. in the 6800 block of South Emerald Avenue, two victims were near the sidewalk when they were hit by gunfire. A man of unknown age self-transported to St. Bernard with unknown injuries. A woman, 52, was taken to U of C Hospital with at least one gunshot wound to her back in good condition.
- At 4:10 p.m., in the 800 block of North Sacramento Boulevard, a 46-year-old man was inside a vehicle when someone shot him in the head. The car then crashed into a parked car and a light pole. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, and later was pronounced dead.
- At 7:05 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Ferdinand Street, a 37-year-old man was approached by an unknown person inside a green SUV while walking on the sidewalk. The person fired a gunshot in the victim's direction and fled eastbound. The victim was hit in his right foot and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- At 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of East 95th Street, a 39-year-old man was walking Westbound on 95th Street when he was shot in the groin. The victim could not provide further details of the incident and was taken to U of C in fair condition.
Shootings from Sunday
- At 12:26 a.m. in the 1800 block of South Karlov Avenue, a 24-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot at by someone who was traveling in a white SUV. The victim was hit in the chest and was taken to Mt. Sinai in critical condition.
- At 12:45 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Cicero Avenue, a 19-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot at by another man who fled the scene on foot. The victim hit in the leg and was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition.
- At 3:20 a.m. in the 3000 block of West Chicago Avenue, two victims, a 59-year-old man and a woman of unknown age, were approached by an unknown person inside a black SUV who fired multiple gunshots in the victims' direction. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The woman was hit in her left shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The gunman fled in the SUV eastbound on Chicago Avenue.
- At 5 a.m. in the 4800 block of North Sheridan Road, a 32-year-old man was shot in his lower right leg and was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition. The victim was uncooperative with police.
- At 5:21 a.m. in the 2700 block of West 12th Place, a 49-year-old man, while inside a vehicle, was shot in his right knee and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. The victim is uncooperative with police.
- At 6:02 a.m. in the 7500 block of South Calumet Avenue, two men, 31 and 35, while inside a residence, were shot by an unknown man, who then fled on foot eastbound on 76th Street. The 35-year-old man was hit in his arm and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. The 31-year-old man was shot once in his back and twice in his right leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
- At 2 p.m., a 26-year-old woman was in the hallway of an apartment complex in the 7300 block of South Chappel Avenue in South Shore when she was shot in the back. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
- At 10:20 p.m. in the 500 block of East 75th Street, a 37-year-old man was arguing with another man on the sidewalk. The victim then left the scene in a silver SUV. When the victim was leaving the area in his vehicle, he drove past the offender standing on the sidewalk. The man produced a handgun and fired gunshots at the vehicle, hitting the victim twice in the leg and once in the arm. The victim's vehicle came to rest, where he was treated by fire crews and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
Shootings from Monday
- At 8:41 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Springfield Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot after a witness found a 42-year-old man who had been shot in the chest. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and later was pronounced dead.
- At 11:56 p.m. in the 400 block of South Pulaski Road, officers responded to a call of a person shot, and found a woman approximately 25 to 30 years old who had been shot in the right leg. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, and was not cooperating with investigators.
Shootings from Tuesday
- At 1:14 a.m. in the 11000 block of South Ashland Avenue, a 38-year-old man got into an argument with a man in a gray SUV, when that man pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Unless otherwise noted above, no one is in custody in any of this weekend's shootings.
