1 dead, 10 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, according to Chicago police

At least one person was killed and eight others were injured in weekend shootings across the city as of Sunday, according to Chicago police.

The ages of the victims range from 17 to 52.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, police responded to a report of a person shot in the 100 block of East 71st Street just before 10:30 p.m. and found a 49-year-old man on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the cheek and shoulder. 

Fire crews also responded to the scene to treat the victim before taking him to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 4:55 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Arthington Street, a woman, whose age was not released, was inside a vehicle when someone approached and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The victim suffered one gunshot to the throat and one to the right hand. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 5 a.m. in the 4700 block of West North Avenue, preliminary reports say a 17-year-old boy was walking outside in an alley when he approached an unknown male and female. The unknown male then pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the left arm. The offender fled the scene, police said. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 6:02 a.m. in the 6400 block of North Richmond Street, preliminary reports say that a 45-year-old man was walking outside when he got into an argument with a known person, who pulled out a gun and shot him. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. The offender was taken into custody. The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 5:13 p.m., a 26-year-old man took out a gun and shot a 52-year-old man during a fight in the 6000 block of South Damen Avenue. The older man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. The younger man was taken into custody.
  • At 7:45 p.m., a 50-year-old man was walking near an alley behind the 3600 block of West Lawrence Avenue when a man came up and shot him. The victim as shot in the left and hand and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was stabilized.    

Shootings from Sunday

  • At 1:20 a.m., a 34-year-old man was standing outside in the 3600 block of West Madison Street when a gray sport-utility vehicle passed and someone inside fired shots. The victim was shot in the temple and right shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in fair condition.
  • At 1:24 a.m., a 30-year-old man was in a parked car in the 3000 block of West North Shore Avenue when a man came up and a quarrel ensued. The second man took out a gun and shot the first man, police said. The victim was shot twice in the arm and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in fair condition, police said.
  • At 2:13 a.m., a 32-year-old man was walking in the 400 block of North LaSalle Drive, near Hubbard Street, when a white sport-utility vehicle pulled up and a man got out and demanded the victim's property. One of the men from the SUV then shot the victim multiple times. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 5:11 p.m. in the 700 block of West 59th Street, a 20-year-old woman was standing near the sidewalk when she was approached by an unknown vehicle. Multiple people got out and at least one man pulled out a gun and shot at the victim before the group left in an unknown direction. The woman was hit in the leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 10:22 p.m., an 18-year-old man self-transported to Rush Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was later taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The victim was uncooperative in providing details of the incident to responding officers.
