20 Years For County Cop Who Tried To Have His Wife Killed For $1,000
MAYWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- Cook County probation officer was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for offering to pay $1,000 to have his wife killed.
Michael Dickerson, 47, was convicted last October after a bench trial of solicitation of murder for hire, authorities said. Judge Noreen Love revoked Dickerson's bond, and he was taken into custody after the conviction.
On Monday, Dickerson was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said.
Dickerson, a former gang intelligence officer, confessed to investigators, saying his "marriage was messed up" and he "wanted out of it," according to the state's attorney's office.
On May 27, 2010, a criminal defense attorney approached the state's attorney's office saying Dickerson came to his client with the offer in late April 2010, officials say. The client, whom authorities did not identify, agreed to become an informant.
Investigators for the state's attorney's and Cook County Sheriff's office received court approval to conduct video and audio surveillance of Dickerson.
On June 5, 2010, he allegedly told the informant to shoot his wife, offering $1,000. Dickerson allegedly said his wife had a life insurance policy that named him as beneficiary.
