Youkilis To Play Third Base For PawSox This Weekend

BOSTON (CBS) – Injured Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis will remain in the minors leagues this weekend, and be re-evaluated by the team early next week, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Youkilis, who was 1-for-2 for Pawtucket on Wednesday as the team's DH, will play third base through Monday and then join the big-league Sox in Baltimore on Tuesday.

Whether he is activated at that time or not depends on how the weekend with Pawtucket goes.

The Sox third baseman has been out since April 29 with a lower back strain. He was eligible to come off the disabled list on Monday, but had just resumed baseball activities last weekend.

In 18 games for Boston this season, Youkilis hit just .218 with two home runs and nine RBI. His replacement, prospect Will Middlebrooks, is batting .259 with four homers and 14 RBI in 14 games, but is currently in an 0-for-9 slump with seven strikeouts in his last three games.
