Winthrop Harbormaster Accused Of Accepting Free Work On Private Dock

BOSTON (AP) - The state Ethics Commission says Winthrop's harbormaster accepted free work on his private dock from a company that had a $2 million contract to build a new town pier.

The Commission on Thursday issued a show cause order alleging that Charles Famolare violated state conflict of interest law.

In 2007, investigators said employees of Boston Towing and

Transportation attached two finger piers to Famolare's private dock at no cost.

They said the firm also cleaned the bottom of his Jet Ski float for free.

Investigators said the work was done less than a year after the company was awarded the contract to build the town pier, a project Famolare helped oversee.

The commission plans a public hearing on the allegations within 90 days.

Famolare did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
