Gas Station Clerk Recovering After Being Shot During Attempted Armed Robbery
WEYMOUTH (CBS) - A Weymouth gas station clerk is recovering on Thursday after he was shot in an attempted armed robbery.
The store clerk, a 24-year-old Bennet DeChellis from Weymouth, was treated at South Shore Hospital for a bullet wound to the shoulder
"A couple inches to the left and I would have been a dead man," he told WBZ-TV.
Weymouth Police responded to Rooney's gas station on Main Street at about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday for a report that an employee had just been shot by a male during an attempted robbery.
"He's going to go in there looking for money no matter what, so I was doing whatever I could to just protect myself at the moment," recalled DeChellis.
A 22-year-old Weymouth man, Christopher Tanguay, is accused of shooting a gas station clerk during an attempted robbery.
Police apprehended Tanguay a short distance from the gas station on Park Avenue about 20 minutes after the robbery.
Tanguay was charged with attempt to commit a crime-armed robbery while masked, armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by discharging a firearm, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, possessing ammunition without an FID card, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police said.
He was held without bail after the arraignment.
DeChellis said if it happens again, he hopes he fares better.
"Hopefully I can lock the door, but if he gets in there, I would rather keep my life and give him the money, no doubt."
