Weymouth Lunch Lady Pleads Guilty To Statutory Rape Charges

DEDHAM (CBS) -- A former Weymouth Public Schools food services employee charged with statutory rape in 2014 pleaded guilty Wednesday.

Janelle Foley, 38, of Weymouth pleaded guilty to four counts of rape of a child in Norfolk Superior Court Wednesday morning, shortly before her case had been scheduled for jury selection.

Prosecutors in the case said the mother of four had sex on several occasions with the 15-year-old son of a family friend. She was released on bail in March 2014.

"We felt a state prison sentence was appropriate in this case," Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said in a statement after the plea. "We were ready to go to trial. I am relieved for the victim in this case that the convictions were secured without needing to testify at trial."

Foley was sentenced to 2.5-4.5 years in state prison, and has been transported to Framingham to start her sentence. She was given one day of credit for the day she was initially held.

She was ordered to wear a GPS monitor, have no direct or indirect contact with the victim and his family, have no unsupervised contact with children under 18 other than her own, and do no work or volunteering with children under 18.

In addition, she must register as a sex offender, comply with the sex offender registry base, and undergo sex offender evaluation. She must also take medication and undergo counseling.

Foley had requested a stay of sentence through February vacation, but the request was denied by the judge.
