Wednesday's Child: 15-Year-Old Hector

Hector is an athletic fifteen-year-old Hispanic boy who is initially quiet and shy when first getting to know someone new. With time, he shows off a great sense of humor. Hector enjoys spending time with friends playing basketball, going to the movies and hanging out at the mall. Hector is up for trying anything new with a trusted adult or friend. He has strong relationships with the adults in his life. At the residential home where he is currently placed, Hector gets along well with other residents and staff. He has begun making breakfast for the other teens on weekend mornings and baking brownies and cookies on occasion.

Hector takes pride in helping and responds well to incentives. School can be difficult for Hector because of his significant delays, but he does well with written rules and routines. His teachers report that Hector places great effort in his work and completes assignments to the best of his abilities despite his disabilities. Hector does well with a structured environment and would love a family that will help him to improve his self-discipline and prepare him for a future in the armed forces.

Legally freed for adoption, Hector would benefit from a single or two-parent adoptive family with or without other children. His caretakers should be experienced with children who have a trauma history. The ideal family for Hector would help him maintain contact with his birth family and other important connections he has made in his life. With a lot support both at home and in school, Hector could reach his fullest potential.
