Veterans Hope Stolen Helmet Is Returned To Natick Memorial

NATICK (CBS) -- Veterans who work at the VFW post in Natick hope that someone comes forward to return the helmet that was stolen from the "Fallen Soldier's Memorial" about a week ago.

Harry Seaholm, a navy veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War, works at VFW post 1274. The war memorial honors those who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

"[The memorial] means a lot," Seaholm said. "It means everything."

Seaholm wishes that the thieves would return the helmet out of common decency and out of respect for the man who wore that helmet in battle.

"There's a body attached to that helmet somewhere out there who gave up his life," Seaholm said.

The helmet was cemented to a rifle that stands beside a wall of names of service men and women who died in service.

The VFW has been the target of vandals in the past.

A 'We Support Our Troops' sign was stolen and now, a new one needs to be chained on to prevent more thievery.

"Maybe they'll return it," Seaholm said. "I certainly hope so. If they don't, we'll get another one."
