Toucher & Rich: Thornton Talks 'Cuts For A Cause'

BOSTON (CBS) - Shawn Thornton and his new haircut joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich Thursday morning, one day after the fifth annual "Cuts for a Cause" earned over $58,000 for pediatric cancer care.

"It's pretty impressive. I was a little surprised myself by the number," said Thornton. "That's awesome."

In addition to the money raised, Thornton got to see some of his teammates get interesting haircuts. Brad Marchand had just a little hair left on the back of head, which Thornton termed a "skullet." Adam McQuaid's mullet got a bit of a trimming, but it may not last long.

"It's amazing, isn't it? He's such a good guy, he doesn't mind doing this stuff," Thornton said of McQuaid. "We'll see what coach says when we get to the rink. I think the mullet last year was pushing it."

Does Claude Julien really check everyone's hair at practice?

"It's not like you can miss that," Thornton joked of McQuaid's hair.

The Bruins have just six games remaining in the regular season, with the Capitals in the Garden Thursday night. Washington is currently fighting for their playoff lives, sitting two points back of Buffalo for the eighth and final seed.

The Bruins are 1-2 against the Caps this season, and would like to even the series up Thursday night.

"They're dynamic offensively. They can get the puck going the other really quick and can score goals," said Thornton. "I think where we've had success is trying to keep the puck in the other team's end as much as possible and staying out of the box. Their power play is unbelievable, so keeping it five on five is one of the keys for tonight too."
