BOSTON (CBS) – Tom Brady says he looks forward to playing against the Miami Dolphins Sunday in the season opener, despite not practicing Thursday.
Brady did not appear on the team's first practice/injury report of the season on Wednesday, but was listed with a calf injury on Thursday's report.
"Physically I had the day off, but I got a lot of extra film in. I got a lot of extra mental reps in and walk-throughs and such and I'll be ready to go Sunday," Brady told Westwood One's Jim Gray in his weekly radio interview.
Gray then asked Brady - will you be out there Sunday in Miami?
"I sure hope so. I mean anything can happen for anybody between now and then, but I'm looking forward to playing Sunday," Brady said.
He also told Gray he's hoping 2014 will be "my best year yet."
The Patriots traded away Logan Mankins last week -- one of Brady's top protectors on the offensive line and one of his best friends in the locker room. Gray asked Brady if he has any fear that at some point, he too could find himself traded by Bill Belichick.
"I don't think I worry about it," Brady said. "I think I understand that it's part of the business, and I need to continue to find ways in the offseason to make sure that the team does want me. If there ever comes a time where the team doesn't, maybe there's another team that will.
"I really try to work hard – first of all because I love the game, and I love to work hard at it, but secondly, I want to be in this place for as long as I possibly can," he continued. "Part of training for the football season; I always have long-term goals in mind, and that's to be the best player I can be for the team I'm playing for. There's no other team I'd rather play for than the Patriots."
