The Latest Pitiful Attempt At Trolling Tom Brady: Denver 7-Eleven Types 'Brady's A Cheater' On Receipt
By Matt Dolloff (@mattdolloff)
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tom Brady's detractors and critics - and there are many - can say whatever they want about the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback. But Brady's supporters also reserve the right to pity them.
There is a very short list of NFL organizations that Brady hasn't completely tormented throughout his career, and the Denver Broncos are on that list. TB12 is a mere 5-5 in his career against the Broncos with a spotty history playing in the thin Mile High air, and the last time the two teams met in the postseason was a game New England would rather forget. So it's not as pathetic as most other regions of the country that a Broncos fan would jab Brady about cheating, which a creative 7-Eleven employee just did - and went viral for it.
This is to be expected everywhere other than New England. People will find their own clever ways to take shots at Brady and the Patriots in the wake of DeflateGate, while Patriots Nation can't do much besides shrug and move on. Brady is absolutely laying waste to the league this season, with fully inflated footballs, while most other quarterbacks and teams have regressed. Continued quipping about cheating just comes off as lame and obtuse these days.
Despite the Broncos' success this season and in some important recent games against the Patriots, you kind of have to feel bad for this 7-Eleven employee. He or she went out of their way to drop New England's C-word, presumably completely unprovoked. Customers reportedly complained about the disparaging receipts, which to me says the cashier was serving people wearing Patriots gear at the time.
People can do this all they want, and they will think they got us mad. There's no need to get mad, or offer any response other than "I mean...whatever, man," followed by glancing at your friends and snickering in the person's face.
I'm not mad; no one in their right mind is mad. We're just disappointed. Disappointed that fans can't appreciate greatness and the incredible run that Brady and Peyton Manning are on in their late-30s, as they appear on course for one last battle for AFC supremacy.
Oh well, their loss. Knowledgeable, reasonable fans will tune in to Patriots - Broncos in Week 12 and enjoy the greatness unfolding in front of them, while the rest will keep winning keyboard wars behind 7-Eleven counters. If there's one person who may twist this receipt into something that angers him into playing better, it's Brady. So as far as New England is concerned, these jabs can keep on coming.
