Teen dies while swimming in Lynn

Breed Pond in Lynn. (WBZ-TV)

A high school student has died while swimming with friends in a Lynn pond.

Police say 15-year-old Salim Fort was pulled from the waters of Breed Pond by firefighters at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Friends told the Lynn Item they saw the boy go under and tried desperately to save him but could not.

Lynn Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy said the pond is off limits to swimming, but that teens often go into the waters to cool off during the summer.

The teen attended Lynn Classical High School. Kennedy said the building will be open on Wednesday with grief counselors on hand.
