Hundreds of people have refused to pay the $4 a day parking fee and the MBTA admits they haven't been enforcing it – until now.
MBTA general manager Richard Davey said the T has $1 million in outstanding parking fines to collect. One woman from Weymouth owes $1,290.
Scofflaws get a warning letter first. If they don't pay, they get an orange sticker on their car. If the violations continue, the car is towed.

This is how bad the problem had become.
More than 800 people parked in T lots without paying at least 10 times in the past few years.
Making matters worse, the fine for not paying is only $1.
Since the T started a crackdown in November, they have been able to collect more than $22,000 in fines by towing cars.
If putting cash and coins in the honor boxes is not convenient, the MBTA says you can also pay online at parkmobile.com. There is no extra cost.
Davey said the MBTA will make monthly parking passes available in February for $70 a month, which is about a $10 savings for regular commuters.
