Davis: Amy Lord Murder Investigation 'Very Close'
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — Authorities held a community meeting in South Boston to discuss public safety following the kidnapping and fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old woman.
Police have said that a man who is in custody in connection with two other attacks is a "person of interest" in Amy Lord's homicide.
The meeting was held Monday evening at Tynan Elementary School on East Fourth Street in South Boston.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis and Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley listened to residents' concerns.
Investigators have said Lord was kidnapped last week and forced to withdraw cash from five ATMs before she was stabbed to death.
A bicyclist found her body in the Stony Brook Reservation in the city's Hyde Park section.
"The investigation has been very intense over the weekend. We worked around the clock on various pieces of evidence and I would characterize this investigation as 'very close,'" Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Monday.
Edwin Alemany, the person of interest in Lord's murder, is also connected to another alleged assault on a woman in Roxbury last September.
The woman told officers a man attacked her from behind and when she regained consciousness from the attack, she had a wallet in her possession that had an ID belonging to Alemany.

Commissioner Davis said it was clear that there was probable cause linking Alemany to that attack, but he was never arrested. At the community meeting Monday night, the crowd applauded when Davis said the detective involved in that case would no longer be handling investigations.
Lord's wake was Monday in Springfield, followed by her funeral Tuesday in Wilbraham.
