Scituate Residents Break Out The Shovels For 5 Inches Of 'Beautiful' Snow

SCITUATE (CBS) -- Anyone living south of Boston was forced to break out a shovel Monday. But at this point in the season, Scituate residents said a even just few inches of snow is welcome at this point.

New England's 2018-2019 winter has been severely lacking snow. Only 2.8 inches fell in Boston Monday, the largest one day total the city has seen all winter.

Five inches fell in Scituate, 5.2 inches fell in Provincetown and 5.5 was on the ground in Rockland.

"I think it's beautiful. We've been needing and lacking snow all winter. It cleans everything up and gives the kids a fun day out in the snow, people walking their dogs. It's not dangerous, it's just pretty," one woman told WBZ-TV.

"It's New England, that's what happens here, you got to get used to it," said another man. He knows better than to believe winter is almost over.

"I expect another two feet or so," he said.

In Marshfield, the small storm put a small dent in the snow removal budget.

Jim Kent of the Department of Public Works said, "it's not too bad, we haven't been that bad this year yet because we haven't had any major storms, but it's about $65-70,000 worth."
