BOSTON (CBS) - CSNNE's Sean McAdam appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak Show Thursday afternoon to discuss all things Red Sox, starting off with Rusney Castillo's major league debut.
"It was pretty ordinary," McAdam said of the debut, "There was so much build up and so much in the way of expectations for this guy."
He went on to say, "We were really looking forward to this but baseball doesn't lend itself to a sort of one game evaluation."
He mentioned that though he is finally in the big leagues, it'll be a while until we really know what he can bring, "It's really going to take a while to see what can be, but obviously last night was a start and it was one that had a lot of value and anticipation attached to it."
Afterwards, McAdam discussed starting pitcher Clay Buchholz's finish to the season. "Out of the last six or seven starts, there was one bad one," he said.
He went to say that, "Last night was kind of a step backwards. If we have learned anything about Buchholz this year, it's the fact that he has to use the full mix of pitches to be effective. But if you can eliminate that and get after him early in at bats, not giving him an opportunity to get into his pitches and bag of tricks, then you see what happened last night."
Following that, McAdam discussed the team's focus and goals towards the last week of the season. He discussed the evaluation process for the team as they continue to look at individual young talent as well as pitching.
He named Castillo's progression being important for him to get reps and comfortable in the big leagues. He also mentioned Brock Holt's recovery process from a concussion.
McAdam finished by talking about how the Sox need to figure out the young pitching they have and who will go where for the 2015 season.
