Route 1 crash in Norwood, Massachusetts leaves man dead, another driver injured

A serious crash on Route 1 in Norwood, Massachusetts left one driver dead and another injured on Wednesday morning.

The crash near Pendergast Circle killed 29-year-old Henry Oberlander of Norwood, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey said. A 47-year-old driving another car was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Footage from the scene showed a heavily damaged car and a van with front-end damage, and debris in the grass on the side of the road.

It's not clear yet what caused the crash. Norwood police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney's office are investigating.

Route 1 was shut down for a few hours in both directions because of the crash. It reopened to traffic at about 11 a.m.
