Report: Red Sox and Beckett Close to Deal
According to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman, The Red Sox and Josh Beckett are close to completing a four-year extension for close to $70 million.
A deal is likely to be announced just after the start of the season because extensions completed before the regular season affect the competitive balance tax. Beckett's extension would be in addition to the $12 million he is set to earn in 2010.
