Report: Patriots Release Marcus Stroud

FOXBORO (CBS) - The Patriots have released defensive lineman Marcus Stroud due to his ailing shoulder, the player told the Boston Herald's Ian Rappaport.

Stroud had signed a two-year deal with the Patriots on March 1, before the NFL Lockout.

The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder spent the first seven years of his career with the Jaguars and then played three years in Buffalo. He had a career-high 6.5 sacks back in 2002 while with Jacksonville.

The Patriots, which are about to acquire Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, have a good amount of depth at the position, with Vince Wilfork, a healthy Ty Warren and Ron Brace, among others, all set to anchor the defensive line.
