Report: Jaromir Jagr On Trade Block, And Bruins May Be Front-Runners

BOSTON (CBS) -- A future Hall of Fame forward was traded out of Calgary last week, and according to a report, another could be on the move out of Dallas before Wednesady's trading deadline.

ESPN's Jimmy Murphy reported Tuesday (via Twitter) that Stars forward Jaromir Jagr is now on the trade market.

A couple of hours later, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun tweeted that his "sense" is that "Boston leads the list of front-runners." CBC's Elliote Freedman added via Twitter that the Bruins are "among teams very interested."

The Stars, with 35 points, currently sit just three points out of the eighth spot in the Western Conference but were shut out 4-0 on Monday night by the Ducks, who lead the Starts' Pacific Division with 53 points. With the Stars at 16-16-3 on the season, it wasn't clear whether they'd try to be buyers or sellers in advance of the trade deadline, but it appears as though they are willing to part ways with free-agent-to-be Jagr.

In Boston, where the Bruins famously missed out on Jarome Iginla last week, Jagr's name is sure to be discussed often prior to the deadline as a potential addition. The 41-year-old forward doesn't have eye-popping numbers, with 14 goals and 12 assists in 34 games. However, those numbers would have him tied for the team lead in goals in Boston and fourth in points. The Bruins are currently tied for 12th in the NHL with 2.74 goals per game.

It won't be easy for the Bruins to acquire Jagr, though, given the small size of the seller's market.

Jagr's future status has been a bit of a mystery over the past week, with the Dallas News reporting as recently as last Thursday that he was discussing a possible extension with the Stars. He signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Stars last offseason after posting 19-35-54 totals last year with the Flyers, his first season back in the NHL since 2007-08.
