Report: Dustin Pedroia Returning To Boston For Possible Knee Surgery

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is heading back to Boston on Thursday to get his knee examined, and may possibly face surgery, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham and Nick Cafardo.

Pedroia injured his right knee in a game against the Orioles on May 16 while fielding a ball. He said that a potential surgical procedure would keep him out of action for a month.

The 2008 AL MVP is hitting .247 this season.

If Pedroia is to miss any time, expect Jed Lowrie to fill in at second base and Marco Scutaro to play shortstop. Drew Sutton, a backup utility infielder, also has experience at second.
