Report: Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill Sprains ACL And MCL; Team Originally Feared Torn ACL
BOSTON (CBS) -- UPDATE (1:30 p.m. EST): The Dolphins determined that quarterback Ryan Tannehill suffered sprained ACL and MCL in his left leg and not a torn ACL, as originally feared. He will not require surgery.
Although it has yet to be confirmed, multiple reports on Sunday indicate that the Miami Dolphins fear quarterback Ryan Tannehill suffered a torn ACL during the Dolphins' 26-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals, which would end the QB's season.
Tannehill left Sunday's game after taking a low hit to his left knee from Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell. Backup QB Matt Moore replaced Tannehill, who spent the rest of the game hugging teammates and looking emotional on the sidelines.
Despite losing Tannehill for much of the game and likely for the rest of the season, the Dolphins' win improved them to 8-5 with a real chance to make the AFC Playoffs. They still have a date with the Patriots in Week 17 on their home field.
Going to Miami has historically been a tough spot for Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, but with Tannehill likely out, the road for the Patriots just got a whole lot easier.
