Bruins Place Chris Bourque On Waivers
BOSTON (CBS) -- Following their first two-game losing streak of the season, it's time for a little change in the Bruins lineup.
For one, Anton Khudobin was the first goaltender off the ice at the team's morning skate, which is normally an indication that he'll be the night's starting netminder. Coach Claude Julien was, as usual, mum on his starting goalie.
Julien will also likely be mixing things up on the third line. Jay Pandolfo alternated with Chris Bourque on the third line during the skate, and Bourque remained on the ice after most of the team headed to the dressing room.
Later in the afternoon, the Bruins announced that Bourque has been placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Providence.
By being placed on waivers, any NHL team can claim Bourque up until noon on Friday. If teams pass on him, then the Bruins can send him down to the AHL.
Bourque has just one goal, three assists and a minus-6 rating in 18 games played this season on a third line that's largely underperformed. Center Chris Kelly has one goal and four assists to go with his minus-7 rating, while Rich Peverley has three goals, three assists and a team-worst minus-8 rating. Clearly, something needs to change.
It appears that change will come in the form of Pandolfo. The veteran forward has skated in just three games this season, averaging a little under eight minutes on the ice per game while skating on the fourth line and the penalty kill.
