Red Sox Avoid Arbitration With Mike Aviles
BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox signed utilityman Mike Aviles for a one-year contract worth $1.2 million, according to WBZ-TV's Dan Roche.
Aviles came over to the Red Sox during the season from the Kansas City Royals in a trade for Yamaico Navarro.
With the Red Sox, Aviles .317 in 38 games last season.
An infielder by trade, the Red Sox have expressed interest in putting Aviles in right field on a part-time basis in an effort to get his right-handed bat in the lineup. Aviles has shown a willingness to try it out.
