Red Sox Avoid Arbitration With Andrew Bailey

BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox and Andrew Bailey have agreed on a one-year deal, avoiding arbitration.

According to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, the team will pay the closer $3.9 million, and Bailey has the chance for an additional $100,000 in incentives.

The Red Sox acquired Bailey in a trade that sent Josh Reddick to the A's last month.

Bailey has 75 saves in his three-year major league career. The 27-year-old right-hander converted 24 of 26 save opportunities for Oakland in 2011, the second-highest success rate among American League closers.  He posted a 3.24 ERA in 42 appearances last season, compiling 41 strikeouts to just 12 walks while holding opponents to a .218 average.

The Red Sox have two more unsigned arbitration-eligible players: Alfredo Aceves and David Ortiz.
