Rajon Rondo Out 6-8 Weeks After Breaking Hand

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo broke his left hand after falling at his home Thursday night, the team said in a statement on Friday.

Rondo underwent successful "surgical fixation of a left metacarpal fracture" Friday morning at New England Baptist Hospital, the team said.

He's expected to return to the team in six to eight weeks.

The Celtics will open their season on Oct. 29 against the Brooklyn Nets, making it likely the point guard could miss 6-10 games.

Rondo, who is set to become a free agent after the season, has missed 95 games over the last two seasons after tearing his ACL in January 2013.
