Quincy Worker Killed In Fall From Bucket Truck

QUINCY (CBS) - A well-known Quincy family has lost one of it's most colorful members.

58-year-old Bobby DeCristofaro was killed today, while trying to fix a traffic light on Route 3A. "They're a wonderful family, Bobby, his sister, his cousin," said DPW Commissioner Dan Raymondi. "He was our traffic guy, but also the guy who lights up the city for the holidays. Very few people can do what Bobby can do."

DeCristofaro was in the bucket of a work truck Tuesday, twenty feet up, fixing the traffic light. A tractor-trailer rig was heading south on 3A, and hit the bucket, sending Decristofaro to the pavement.

WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports

"I heard a loud bang," said Kyle Owens. He was doing a cement project just yards away. "And when I looked up, the guy in the bucket was gone, and the boom was swaying."

The driver of the rig was taken into custody by Quincy Police, to test him for drugs or alcohol.

DeCristofaro had worked for the city for 25 years. And the family name is well-known in the city. "He's irreplaceable as a father, a husband, and as a worker to the city," said Raymondi.
