Police: NH Man Shot Himself While Having A Bad Dream

CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) -- A New Hampshire man's bad dream turned into shocking reality early Wednesday morning.

According to Concord Lt. Timothy O'Malley, the victim told them he woke up from a bad dream and found he had been shot in the knee.

There was no one else home at the time, but a family member who rushed to the scene, told police he may have been sleepwalking before he shot himself.

The man was taken to the hospital and is being treated for the gunshot wound.

Police are investigating how the man got the handgun and whether it was secured.

They have not yet released the man's name.

O'Malley tells WBZ, they have never had issues with the man in the past and they are not seeking charges. There's no word on whether the man has a history of sleepwalking.

Police believe the shooting was an accident.
