Patriots Player Profile: Danny Woodhead
BOSTON (CBS) - Running Back Danny Woodhead did it all for the New England Patriots after joining the team during the 2010 season. Can the small back do it again in 2011?
2010 Stats: 14 games, 97 rush attempts, 547 rush yards, 5 TD, 34 receptions, 379 rec yards, Rec TD
The 5-8 back was signed by the Patriots after being released by the Jets in Week Two, and was not expected to do much other than provide some depth at the running back position. But when Kevin Faulk went down with a torn ACL, Woodhead became, well, Kevin Faulk. He ran the ball, caught the ball, and more importantly, played well as a blocker.
Woodhead proved he could come up big when the Patriots needed it, racking up 90 total yards in a win over the Colts and rushing for 93 yards against the Buffalo Bills at the end of the season. He was second on the Patriots with 326 Yards After Catch, behind only Wes Welker's 433 yards. Woodhead performed well in the Patriots 28-21 loss to the Jets, rushing for 46 yards and catching five passes for 52 yards.

2011 Outlook: If Woodhead does everything he did in 2010, which was everything, he will still get touches this season. It will be a crowded Patriots backfield, with BenJarvis Green-Ellis, Kevin Faulk, and rookies Steven Ridley and Shane Vereen all vying for their chance with the ball. But as New England has learned, you can never have enough rushers in the backfield. Woodhead does it all for the Patriots, which Bill Belichick loves, and is a very good blocker for his size. The fan-favorite made a difference in 2010, and should be able to do it again in 2011.
