Passengers Excited On Opening Day At Assembly Square MBTA Station
SOMERVILLE (CBS) – The first new MBTA stop in 27 years is officially open for business.
Trains began stopping at Assembly Square in Somerville Tuesday morning after the completion of a $29 million construction project.
"It's magnificent," one rider told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens about the new Orange Line stop.
MBTA trains have long run through Somerville, but never stopped for passengers until the Assembly Square station opened.
The new T stop is located between Sullivan Square and Wellington.
Several passengers told Stevens they are excited for the new addition. One woman said she recently moved to the area, and is impressed with the growing business environment in Somerville.
"I moved from South Boston and moving here it's super easy to get into work," the woman said. "There's so much right at your doorstep. Restaurants and shops and every day something else new is opening. It's an exciting place to be."
