News Station Of The Year
We cover tragedy. That's what we do. But WBZ cares. We care about the 80-thousand members of the Haitian community in Boston desperate for information about their loved ones who might be lost in the devastating earthquake. When a quadruple murder strikes in the heart of the city, we strive to take the story beyond the graphic headlines to the core issues behind the violence. We believe we have an obligation to voice the concerns of a concerned public, whether it's an explosion of violence, an erupting volcano or a sputtering economy. We are most proud of our continued commitment to covering the issues confronting and concerning voters in a key election year. From the special election in January to fill Senator Ted Kennedy's seat in Washington, to the mid-term elections, including a heated race for the Corner Office, WBZ provided analysis, context, and results. We are proud this year to feature more enterprise reporting, including a series on the Corner Office issues and the candidates, to a comprehensive look at "Immigration: The American Dream." These issue-based series of reports were accompanied by our consistent coverage of breaking news from the white-outs of winter to wash-outs in the spring. Our creative side burst through this year as well, with our reporters taking us from the astronauts in space to the bleachers at Fenway Park and the orchestra pit at Symphony Hall. It was a year of tragedy and triumph, and WBZ was there, and we care.
