Following the 2000 Honda Civic in the Bay State was the 1997 Honda Accord, the 2014 Toyota Camry, the 2010 Toyota Corolla and the 2005 Dodge Caravan.

Nationwide, the 1996 Honda Accord led the way for vehicle thefts, with 52,244 stolen in 2015. That was followed by the 1998 Honda Civic, the 2006 Ford Pickup, the 2004 Chevrolet Pickup and the 2014 Toyota Camry.

"While older vehicles still dominate our Hot Wheels most stolen list, the number of late model vehicles with anti-theft protection on the list goes to show that technology isn't foolproof," said NICB CEO Joe Wehrle in a statement. "Criminals are doing their best to defeat anti-theft technology through hacking and other means while, at the same time, manufacturers and others are working to improve security.

Experts say drivers should not be leaving their vehicles unlocked or keep their keys inside the car.
